Natalonga per l'Europa
SWIMMING TOGETHER TOWARD AN INCREASINGLY FREE AND UNITED EUROPE
The Ventotene Manifesto for a Free and United Europe, which gave birth to the European project, was imagined when the end of Nazi-fascism in Europe seemed unthinkable.
Today, in order to ward off nationalist threats, it is necessary not only to remember that the roots of the European Union lie in the memory of the tragedies of the 20th century, but also to rediscover that courage of the founding fathers to imagine radical changes, so to build a Europe based on equal rights for all citizens. Political, social, fiscal, environmental and civil rights. Participating in the Natalonga per l'Europa means symbolically swimming to this goal.
NATALONGA PER L'EUROPA - A DIP INTO THE DREAM OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS
The Natalonga on July 23, 2022 on the island of Ventotene is a sporting event and at the same time an opportunity to remember the founding values of the European Union. To envision a new, stronger, more cohesive and united Europe. 1700 meters swim to the origin of the European dream, from the island of Santo Stefano to the beach of Calanave in Ventotene, where in 1941 Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi and Eugenio Colorni wrote the Manifesto.
Launched in 2019, the event has become an eagerly awaited event for the island and for sportsmen and women who also come from outside Italy.
Dedicated to the memory of former European Parliament President David Sassoli, the fourth edition is organized in collaboration with the municipality of Ventotene and the Lazio Region.
